Defective Medical Devices
Injured by a Dangerous Medical Device? You Have Rights
There are currently more than twenty million Americans with medical devices implanted inside of them. Medical devices have become an extremely lucrative business, but as recent studies have shown, many manufacturers are putting profits ahead of safety. In the last several years, many types of medical devices have been linked to serious injuries including hernia mesh patches, cardiac defibrillators, knee replacements, spinal disc replacements, and drug coated stents. The FDA approval process for medical devices is usually less rigorous than for medications. With the recent high profile safety concerns about medical devices, the FDA has been pressured to alter its approval process for these products. Critics of the current FDA process have argued that devices for which medical claims are made should have to meet the same approval criteria as drugs. If a manufacturer is unable to provide sufficient clinical trial efficacy and safety data, the product should not be on the market.
