Heelys Injuries

Legal Representation for Victims of Heelys Roller Shoes

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has said that Heelys, the popular roller-shoes, are associated with more serious injuries than previously thought. The CPSC said Heelys were responsible for 1600 emergency visits in 2006, previously the agency said the roller-shoes were responsible for 64 injuries and one death in 2005 and 2006.

Common injuries associated with Heelys are:

  • Cracked skulls
  • Broken wrists
  • Broken arms
  • Broken ankles
  • Dislocated elbows
The CPSC is not alone in warning about Heelys, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons also issued a warning on the roller-shoes.  The Academy recommends the use of helmets, wrist protectors, knee pads and elbow pads. They also urged parents to remove the wheels from the shoes when they are being worn as shoes, and to only put the wheels in when the shoes are intended to be used as an athletic activity with protective equipment.
