Officials Offer Holiday Present Safety Guidelines Before Santa Claus checks his list of boys and girls who have been naughty and nice, federal product safety officials are urging parents and gift buyers to review their own checklists to ensure that the gifts that arrive under the tree on Christmas morning are safe for children. In 2007, there were 18 toy-related deaths and more than 170,000 emergency-room visits for toy-related injuries, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
