Duragesic Pain Patch Makers Ordered to Pay Millions to Victims

Companies that make and market the Duragesic painkilling skin patch and similar products have been ordered by juries to pay millions of dollars to users who overdosed on the patches’ active ingredient, the potent narcotic fentanyl. The string of multi-million-dollar jury awards follow years of controversy, Food and Drug Administration warnings, and recalls of the Duragesic patches, which were approved in 1990, and generic versions of the fentanyl patches that hit the market in 2005.
